La transition de la télévision analogique vers la télévision numérique est en cours: le plus ancien et le principal réseau de télévision commerciale des Philippines ABS-CBN (Système de diffusion Alto – Réseau de diffusion de chroniques) vient de lancer sa Télévision Numérique Terrestre (TNT) offre de service plus tôt cette semaine, Février 11.
Le ABS-CBN TVplus, également connue sous le nom de « La boîte noire de Mahiwagang," est maintenant disponible à l'achat. Le ABS-CBN TVplus proposera des chaînes numériques gratuites, dont ABS-CBN et ABS-CBN Sports and Action, ainsi que quatre chaînes exclusives: Télévision dzMM, Loups, Chaîne de connaissances et CineMo.
Le rapport intervient après que la Commission nationale des télécommunications (CTN) a publié un mémorandum décrivant les lignes directrices pour passer au système de diffusion de la TNT en décembre de l'année dernière. The NTC chose Japan’s ISDB-T as the national DTT broadcast standard over the European DVB-T2 counterpart. In a nutshell, ISDB-T has a consistent performance and reception even in farthest and/or rural areas. The digital broadcast technology from Japan also provides interactive services, can have additional multiple standard-definition (SDTV) channels and a mobile channel (dubbed as 1seg), and can be received indoors with a simple indoor antenna. Under the NTC guidelines, it is required to simulcast the DTTB service along with the analog TV service for one year upon the grant of authority to proved the former.
The NTC is planning to shut down analog television frequencies by 2018, but this may change depending on adoption and migration to the new television standard by the broadcasting companies in the country.
